What is Graston Technique?

_cc781905-5cde-3194-bb3b-bb3b-136bad5cf It is a form of manual therapy known as tissue and fascia mobilization. In addition to other manual therapy applications, it is performed with the help of stainless steel instruments designed according to the shape of the area where the application is made. The therapy is designed to help the practitioner identify areas of restriction and attempt to break up the scar tissue.

It allows the opening of scar tissue and fascia restrictions that are often associated with some type of trauma to the soft tissue, for example a strained muscle or a strained ligament, tendon or fascia. It helps to reduce the restriction by stretching the connective tissue to reorganize the structure of the treated soft tissue (e.g. muscle, fascia, tendon, ligament). To provide a better healing environment for injured soft tissue. The Graston technique helps to reduce patient pain and increase function through these combinations.

Studies have shown that treating patients with Graston technique instruments has a neurological benefit. The literature shows that certain nerve fibers are activated when a patient is given manual or instrument assisted soft tissue mobilization (IASTM) therapy. In addition, the body's position sensing organs, such as mechanical receptors and proprioceptors, have been noted to respond to these forms of therapy.

What are the Graston Technique Effects?

For example, most of the back consists of fascia, ligaments, and tendons. Injuries to this soft tissue play an important role in the pain and dysfunction associated with back problems. While it may not seem like a serious injury, a simple back muscle strain or torn ligament in the back can cause excruciating pain and difficulty moving. The Graston technique offers a lot of potential to the patient with such a disability. These are as follows, respectively.

  • Reduction of overall treatment time

  • Promote faster rehabilitation/recovery

  • Reducing the need for anti-inflammatory drugs

  • It provides the solution of chronic conditions that are considered permanent.

When we look at the effects of the graston technique in general:

  • Reduces Chronic Pain

  • Provides fascia mobilization, reducing tension

  • Scar (Fibrocyte) disperses the tissue

  • It helps in the treatment of injured muscles.

  • Accelerates the treatment of sports injuries.
